Zach's Claude Code setup

Gets the SSM processing skills (UWM and Loan Simple condition uploads, title check, sales agenda) working on Zach's computer. About 20 minutes. Tick each step as you go.

0 of 9 done
  1. Step 1 · Before you start

    Check Zach's Claude account is in the SSM organization

    The processing skills come from the SSM org plugin (ssm-processing). It installs itself for org members only.

    • On claude.ai, Zach should sign in with his @speakstraightmortgage.com account, not a personal one.
    • If he isn't a member yet, add him from your org admin settings first.
    • Bring the team password (SSM_PASS). Type it in yourself at step 5. Don't text or email it.
  2. Step 2 · Windows only

    Install Git for Windows

    Claude Code on Windows runs its commands through Git Bash. Download it from git-scm.com/download/win and accept the defaults.

  3. Step 23

    Install Claude Code

    Open Terminal (Cmd + Space, type "Terminal") and paste:

    Open PowerShell from the Start menu and paste:

    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
    irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

    When it finishes, close the window and open a new one so the claude command is found.

    If a new window says claude isn't recognized, the installer prints a folder to add to PATH (usually C:\Users\zach\.local\bin). Run this, then open a new window again:
    [Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable('Path', [Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable('Path','User') + ";$HOME\.local\bin", 'User')
  4. Step 34

    Make a work folder and sign in

    mkdir -p ~/ssm && cd ~/ssm && claude
    mkdir $HOME\ssm -Force; cd $HOME\ssm; claude

    Choose to sign in with a Claude account. A browser opens. Zach logs in with his SSM account and approves.

  5. Step 45

    Confirm the SSM skills arrived

    Inside Claude Code, type /plugin and look for ssm-processing under installed plugins. Or ask:

    What SSM skills do you have?

    You should see ssm-ground-rules, uwm-conditions, loan-simple-conditions, title-check and sales-agenda.

    Missing? Quit Claude Code (/exit) and start it again. Plugins sync at startup. If they're still missing, Zach isn't in the org, or the plugin isn't turned on for him in your org admin settings.
  6. Step 56

    Save the team password on his computer

    Claude needs the SSM team password to read loans from the LO portal. You type it once, into the blue PowerShell window (black Terminal window on a Mac), and the computer remembers it.

    1. Get out of Claude Code. If you see Claude's chat box, type /exit and press Enter. You should see a plain line ending in > or %.
    2. Click Copy on the line below:
      $p = Read-Host "Type the SSM password, then press Enter"; setx SSM_PASS $p; $p = $null
      read -rsp "Type the SSM password, then press Enter: " P && echo "export SSM_PASS='$P'" >> ~/.zshrc && unset P && echo && echo saved
    3. Paste it into the PowerShellTerminal window: right-click inside the windowpress Cmd + V. Press Enter.
    4. The window now says Type the SSM password, then press Enter. Type the password (don't paste it from a text) and press Enter. Nothing shows while you type. That's normal. It should then say SUCCESS: Specified value was saved.saved
    5. Close the window (the X at the top) and open a new PowerShellTerminal window. The computer only picks up the password in new windows.
    6. Check it worked. Copy this, paste it into the new window, press Enter:
      if ($env:SSM_PASS) { "saved" } else { "MISSING" }
      echo ${SSM_PASS:+saved}
      It should print saved. It never shows the password itself.
    Saw MISSING, or typed it wrong? Start this step again from 2. The new password replaces the old one.
  7. Step 67

    Install Claude in Chrome

    The UWM and Loan Simple uploads drive the browser.

    • In Chrome, open the Chrome Web Store, search Claude, and add the extension by Anthropic.
    • Click the extension and sign in with the same SSM account.
    • Back in Terminal, start Claude Code again (cd ~/ssm then claude), type /chrome, and turn the connection on.
  8. Step 78

    Install Tampermonkey and the portal helpers

    The portal's Export to UWM, Documents to UWM, Export to DO and Class Valuation buttons only work with these helpers. Without them the buttons fall back to doing it by hand.

    • Chrome Web Store: add Tampermonkey.
    • Go to chrome://extensions, open Tampermonkey's Details, and turn on Allow User Scripts. Older Chrome versions don't have this switch. Turn on Developer mode at the top right instead.
    • Open each link below in Chrome and click Install on the Tampermonkey page:
    https://ssm-stack.matt-9b8.workers.dev/ssm-uwm-helper.user.js
    https://ssm-stack.matt-9b8.workers.dev/ssm-do-helper.user.js
    https://ssm-stack.matt-9b8.workers.dev/ssm-class-helper.user.js

    Check: on a loan, click Export to UWM. The status should say UWM helper connected. Zach must already be signed into EASE.

  9. Step 89

    Connect Google Drive

    The title check reads the commitment PDF from Drive. On claude.ai go to Settings → Connectors, connect Google Drive, and sign in with Zach's SSM Google account.

    Skip the Supabase connector. The skills read and write loans through the LO portal, not the database.

  10. Step 910 · Test

    Run a safe test

    In Claude Code, paste this. It only reads, nothing gets changed:

    Look up the loan for borrower LASTNAME in the LO portal and list its conditions.

    Swap LASTNAME for one of Zach's borrowers. It should find the loan and show its conditions. If it says unauthorized, SSM_PASS is wrong or missing, so go back to the password step.

    Then test the browser:

    Open the LO portal in Chrome and take a screenshot.
  11. Last step

    Zach signs into the lender portals himself

    In Chrome, Zach logs into UWM EASE and Loan Simple TPO Connect once and stays signed in. Claude never types lender passwords, so an upload stops at the login screen until he does.

Zach's Chromebook

On a Chromebook, Claude Code runs inside the Chromebook's built-in Linux. Do these in order.

  1. Turn on Linux. Click the clock (bottom right) → gear icon (Settings) → About ChromeOS → Developers → Linux development environment → Turn on. Accept the defaults and wait a few minutes. A black Terminal window opens when it's done.
    No Linux option, or it's greyed out? The Chromebook is managed (school or work) and won't run Claude Code. Skip the Chromebook.
  2. Install Claude Code. Click Copy, then in the Terminal window press Ctrl + Shift + V to paste and press Enter:
    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
    When it finishes, close the Terminal window and open it again (search the launcher for Terminal → penguin).
  3. Save the password. Copy, paste with Ctrl + Shift + V, press Enter. When it asks, type the password (nothing shows while you type) and press Enter. It should say saved:
    read -rsp "Type the SSM password, then press Enter: " P && echo "export SSM_PASS='$P'" >> ~/.bashrc && unset P && echo && echo saved
    Close the Terminal and open it again.
  4. Start Claude and sign in. Same as the computer: Zach's SSM account.
    mkdir -p ~/ssm && cd ~/ssm && claude
  5. Check the skills. Same as the "Confirm the SSM skills arrived" step above.
  6. Claude in Chrome. Same as the Claude in Chrome step above, in the Chromebook's normal Chrome. Don't install a second Chrome inside Linux. Then type /chrome in Claude Code and turn it on. Matt's Chromebook runs it this way every day.
  7. Tampermonkey and the UWM helpers. Same as the Tampermonkey step above, in that same Chrome.
  8. Run both tests from the "Run a safe test" step, including the Chrome screenshot.

Everything works on the Chromebook, including Claude's UWM and Loan Simple condition uploads.
